Important Beaches on Kerala

   

Most of India’s finest beaches in Kerala.For virtually its entitre 600 km length,the Kerala coast is lined with sandy beaches,rocky promontories and coconut palms.

Kovalam Beach (16 km from Thiruvananthapuram) This Internationally renowned sesaside destination comprises three adjacent crescent-shaped beaches.

Shankhumugham  Beach (8km from Thiruvananthapuram)Adjacent to the Thiruvananthapuram airport,this beach has an indoor recreation club,the matsyakanyaka(a gigantic,35 m long sculpture of a mermaid),a restaurant shaped like a starfish and a traffic training park for children.
Nearby are two popular picnic spots-Akkulam and Veli Tourist Village

Chowra Beach(8 km South of Kovalam)Pristine and serene,this fishing hamlet is an unending stretch of white,sandy beachs

Poovar Beach (12 km South of Kovalam)An isolated but spectacular beach,Poovar is situatedclose to the Neyyar River Sanctuary

Papanasham Beach (45 km from Thiruvananthapuram in Varkala)A dip in the sea at Papanasham ,redemption from sins,is believed to be holy

Alappuzha Beach (3.5 km from Alappuzha city) A 137 year old pier which extends into the sea and an old lighthouse add to the attractions of the beach

Fort Kochi Beach (21 km from Eranakulam) Overlooking the Arabian Sea,with its legendary Chinese fishing nets dotting the foreground

Cherai Beach (23 km from Eranakulam)This lovely beach bordering Vypin Island is ideal for swimming.Dolphins are occasionally spotted here

Payyambalam Beach : (2.5km from Kannur) This beach is famous for its flat laterite cliffs that  jut into the sea. The well-laid gardens and the massive landscaped sculpture of Mother and Child make it extremely  captivating.
Kizhunna Beach: (11km from Kannur) This beautiful stretch of sand is one of the most secluded beaches in Kerala. 
Meenkunnu Beach: (12km from Kannur ) Uncrownd, the beach is a tourist’s paradise, with golden sand and surf.

Muzhappilangad Drive in Beach: (15 km from Kannur and 8 km from Thalassery) Black rocks protect this long, clean beach from the currents of the deep, making its shallow waters a swimmer’s paradise. Perhap’s this is Kerala’s only drive-in beach where you can drive down the entire length of 4km.

Bakel Fort Beach(1 km from Kasaragode)Also known as Pallikera Beach,this scenic seaside offers a spectacular view of the historic fort and has ample facilities for recreation and relaxation

Kappil Beach(2 km from Bakel Fort) A winding lane meanders through palm-fringed landscape to this totally unpolluted,secluded beach

    Waterfalls
   

The forests of the Western Ghats are punctuated with large and small waterfalls that roar,gurgle and splash down the mountain side.Almost all theses scintillating cascades are the venues for picnic and excursions round the year.

Palaruvi(75 km from Kollam)Palaruvi which means stream of milk makes its way down the rocks,from height of 300 ft.The Palaruvi woods are a beautiful picnic spot

Athirapally(63 km from Thrissur)At them entrance to the Sholayar Ranges,this 80-ft-high waterfall is as popular spot

Vazhachal(68 km from Thrissur)Just a short drive from Athirapally,this picturesque waterfall is close to dense; green foredts and is a  part of  the Chalakkudy River. Athirapally and Vazhachal are the most famous waterfalls of the Kerala, attracting  tourists in  plenty

Thommankuthu(17 km  from Thodupuzha in Idukki) Famous for its seven step waterfall,Thommankuthu is an ideal place for adventure tourism.Pedal boating,forest
trekking,night camping,bathing in waterfall etc,are some of the activities possible here.

Thusharagiri(50 km from Kozhikode) Waterfalls and streams abound in this hilly region with excellent trekking tracks,located near  Vythiri in Wayanad district.

Meenmutty(29 km from Kalpetta in Wayanad) An interesting 2 km jungle trek will lead to the largest and most spectacular waterfall in Wayanad.Waterdrops from nearly 1000 ft over three stages ,presenting  a triple- decker effect
